Early Bird....

Our sweet little Amanda, what are we to do with you. Amanda has developed a little condition...it's called Early Birdism. Tee-Hee. Lately, she has been waking up when the birds in the tree outside her window wake up. And, since the sun now rises at about 4:30 in the morning, she thinks that it's time to stay up. We are so exhausted we can't stand it. Sarah won't go to sleep until 11:00 pm and now Amanda is getting up between 4:30 and 5 am. We have tried so many things to stop this...we've rearranged her room so her head is as far from the window as we can get it, she has a white noise machine and we've turned it all the way up, I've put a heavy blanket over the window to try and block out the light...and now I've gotten a digital clock in her room and taped a piece of paper to it with 7:00 written on it and told her she can't get out of bed unless the clock matches what's on the paper. Dave is a little skeptical that this will work and, truth be told, so am I. But, I thought we would give it a try. I might have to purchase a shotgun and go target shooting one morning. :0) This is just so not like her. She used to sleep from 8:00 pm until 8 or 9:00 am. Oh, we were so spoiled I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions from anybody out there? We will try almost anything.

Gosh I don't know what to tell you.
It sounds like you have pretty much tried everything...from moving her bed, to a sound machine, to covering the window with a blanket...

Maybe keep her up a little later at night?? Who knows. Good luck.

I hope you get back to normal sleep soon.

Maybe your trip will change her sleeping pattern too.

Just came over from Lori's site. My 4 kids were ALL like that. When the sun was up - they were up. I use to dislike summer for that very reason. I had friends who's kids would sleep late. Mine never did.

Hi Tami:-)Lori mentioned you on her blog and told us we should come visit you...I listen to everything she says! hehe Omigosh, your two little girls are so precious...I see that Sarah has mama's eyes, just beautiful!! I don't envy you the lack of sleep you're getting...hopefully it's just a faze and she'll start back to sleeping in later than 4:30 a.m.!!! xox

Hi Tami,
Just came over from Lori's to welcome you to blogging!
Wish I had a good suggestion for keeping your little one in bed, but it may be just a passing thing. Maybe if she had some quiet music (like a cd player beside her bed), she could push the button and it would lull her back to sleep.

Hi Tami! I am a friend of Lori's and she said to come over and say hi! :0) Welcome to the blogging world, your blog looks wonderful! My oldest daughter Grace is an early bird and would get up too early when she was that age too. We did the same thing with the taped piece of paper and it worked great! We told her she could read, draw or play quietly but she had to stay in her room until 7:00am! Now that she is 9, she still wakes up early but gets breakfast quietly if she is hungry and reads in the livingroom. Good luck!
